During a church service one Sunday evening, we had a man from Cape Town who spoke to us. He spoke about the importance of surrendering everything to God when He calls us. He drew attention to our life after salvation. We can experience much more by fully embracing our faith. He posed a question that resonated with me: “What will you do with the next part of your salvation? Is sitting in your cosy little church the answer?”

 

Feeling a strong pull, I went forward for prayer. He and others prayed for me. They asked for the courage to surrender everything to follow the Lord's call. Although I didn’t know what lay ahead or what I might have to surrender, I was determined to pursue God’s calling.

In the weeks that followed that service, I began to view everything around me with a new perspective. As I walked into my job, I paused to reflect on it. I believed that this job at the helicopter company would be my eventual retirement. I wondered how this fit into God’s plan for my life. After some contemplation, I ultimately surrendered my job to God as well.

 

At home, I stood in front of each of the paintings that I had collected over the years and let them go in my heart. I still own them, but if they were to be stolen or lost at sea, it would not affect me. I said goodbye to everything I possessed. I told the Lord, whether I have it with me or not, it’s all right. He is worth so much more.
