DISCOVERING MY GIFTS
There are many tests available for us as Christians to discover our gifts. I recall completing one such test. I felt discouraged by the outcome, learning my gift was 'administration'. However, as I got more involved in various ministries, my results changed. I found gifts I never knew I had. John A. Shedd said, "A ship in a harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." When we step out in faith, God adds to our blessings. One of those gifts for me was hospitality.
One Sunday evening at church, a tall strong-looking man with a suitcase arrived from Zambia. His name was Pastor Boniface. He said the Lord told him to go to the Vineyard in South Africa. Unfortunately, nobody knew of his arrival. This situation wasn't unusual for many Africans. In a panic, the church administrator asked if I could provide a bed for the Pastor for the night. He promised to pick him up from my home in the morning.
Before I woke up the next morning, I had a dream. In the dream, I was in a hotel with my friend Patricia. We heard that Jesus was in the hotel, and someone told us to get into the lift and press J36 to reach Him. Pat and I were arguing in the lift. We wanted to know who would speak to Jesus last. The last person to speak to Him would have more time with Him. The lift came to an abrupt halt on a floor, and a lady entered. She turned to us and asked if we knew where Jesus was. We told her to follow us, as we were on our way to see Him. She then asked, “Could I please speak to Him last?” I laughed and said we were like the disciples arguing over who would sit next to Jesus.
The next thing I knew, I woke up with these words in my mind: “Leonie, stop looking for Me. I am here with you in your house.” I thought, 'Oh yes, Jesus is with me. Right here in my heart.' Then, I remembered Pastor Boniface was my guest. I needed to make him breakfast before I left for work.
I did not immediately understand what the Lord meant. On my way to work, I thought again about His words “I am here with you in your house”. It was only then that I knew what Jesus was telling me. When I provided a bed for Pastor Boniface to sleep on, I was doing it for Him. This thought gripped my heart, and tears welled up in my eyes. Something so small, yet so crucial.
