THE COWBOY PROPHET
We had even more memorable teaching and ministry times at the Ranch. One important session was with Phyllis Softmore and her team. They spoke to us about the church's restoration. She spoke of a religious spirit in the church. But as we get closer to God, we become more aware of our sins.
They stayed to pray for us. Their words for me confirmed what others had said. It was very encouraging. Phyllis told me that the Lord would grant my heart's desires. She said she knew I yearned for Him. She also prayed for protection against illness that might hinder my life.
At that time, I was reminded and made a note in my journal about how I surrendered my longing for companionship in exchange for the physical healing of a lady back home. Looking back now, I realise how much I had to learn about suffering and humility. However, God remains a compassionate God, and He directs my life. He knew the deep loneliness in my heart and what awaited me.
There was a man who accompanied Phyllis Softmore to help with the ministry. I noticed that he kept glancing at me. He was dressed like a real cowboy and looked like a typical American in his jeans and cowboy boots. I felt increasingly uneasy. He might think I wanted a relationship with an American guy. Later, during lunch, he approached me and said, “The Lord is going to introduce you to your husband soon.” He smiled and walked away, leaving me in stunned silence.
At least he didn’t think it was him; otherwise, he would have introduced himself. I felt a bit agitated, thinking he knew nothing about me. How could he say that? He didn’t even realise that I didn’t want to get married again.
Looking back now, I realise, “Girl, you did not know what was waiting for you back home in South Africa.”
Isaiah 61:1 - 11 NIV The Year of the Lord’s Favour
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken-hearted. To proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion.
Give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes. Give them the oil of joy instead of mourning. Give them a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.
They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the long-devastated places. They will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.
Strangers will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
And you will be called priests of the Lord, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches, you will boast.
You will get a double portion instead of your shame. You will rejoice in your inheritance instead of disgrace. And so, you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.
“For I, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness, I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the Lord has blessed.”
I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.”
