THE MAN FROM YEOVIL

 Index

One Sunday at church, I sat next to Steve, a man from Desert Vineyard. He introduced me to a lady named Rosemary and shared my vision to plant a church in England.

When I told her where I was headed, she replied, “My daughter’s fiancé is from Yeovil.” She then ran off to get her daughter. Instead, she returned with her daughter’s fiancé, Julian. “Julian is from Yeovil,” she exclaimed.

I was shocked. In a church of 1,500 people, halfway around the world, I was introduced to Julian from Yeovil. That was the town I planned to visit in England.

Julian asked me, “Do you have a question about Yeovil? I used to work at the Western Gazette newspaper there.”
I replied, “Tell me something interesting about Yeovil.”
He thought, then said, “At one point in history, Yeovil had the highest divorce rate in England.”

I knew it was no coincidence. I took it as a confirmation from the Lord.
As a divorced woman, I knew the pain behind those stats. I understood the need to heal. Years later, while living in London, we visited Yeovil to find a house. There, we met a lady married to one of the local vicars. She asked me, “Why Yeovil?” I told her that the only confirmation I had was about "divorce." She then said, "Do you know I am also one of those statistics?" She began to tell us about the adultery at the military barracks in Yeovil.

After we settled in Yeovil, a man at our church asked for help. He said evil spirits were sexually and physically attacking him in his home. We hesitated to get involved, but we realised this came with the territory. A group went to his house one morning to pray. Hendrik mentioned that when he stood at the front door, he could feel the presence of evil. However, he noted that it wasn't in the house; it was in the ground. We later found out this, was where the old military barracks stood before they were torn down.
