THE LAST DAYS IN SOUTHEND-ON-SEA

 Index

I stayed over at Jean and Gordon’s home for the last night. Steve Barber called me and picked me up for a coffee. I asked if he had ever thought of church planting in the South-west of England, especially in Yeovil. He said no. I shared my story about Yeovil and told him about the Ranch. I often wondered why the Lord linked me with the Vineyard in Southend-on-Sea, for both now and the future. It took six years to understand why this place was "my home." And it took another six years to fulfil God's call to plant the church. Our connection with Steve Barber became even more significant during the years to follow. Over coffee, we discussed the renewal happening now. I mentioned that God told me to relax and not take things so seriously.
I helped Steve set up for a service that evening in a tent in the park. They shared the tent with the local Church of England. During the service, Steve shared the Lord's message. It was about the need for a light-hearted perspective. There was a strong presence as Wendy led us in worship. Soon, I felt a wave of the Spirit move over us. Laughter filled the air, and some people swayed like trees in the wind. When I prayed for a couple of people, my arm felt extremely heavy, as if it was made of lead. As I tried to pray, my arm started to shake violently, and I had to be careful not to hit anyone with it. Sometimes it can be hard to believe that all of this is from the Lord. However, the after-effects leave me with such a sweet love for God in my heart that it feels like I could burst. Overall, it was a good final evening in England. The next morning, I began my journey back to Heathrow to return to South Africa. Goodbye England. I hope to see you again soon.
